Santa’s elves fly to SickKids! Canadian Armed Forces help deploy Operation HO HO HO.
By Katie Sullivan, Intern, Communications and Public Affairs
During the holiday season, Santa needs all the help he can get to make sure every child gets some holiday cheer. This year he called in special reinforcements. Members of the Canadian Air Force teamed up with the North Pole to ensure that Santa’s big delivery made it to SickKids on time. This covert operation went by the name of Operation HO HO HO.
This year marked the 11th year Operation HO HO HO has been in action and it was full of as much holiday spirit as one event could hold. The elves garnished themselves in holiday colours, ditched their sleds and arrived in style by helicopter from the 400 Tactical Helicopter Squadron, landing on the SickKids’ helipad.
After carrying bags of toys down, the elves gathered in the Rotunda to meet and play with a group of excited children ready to take in the holiday cheer. They coloured and crafted with the children while one of the elves played the guitar and sang holiday carols.
The operation is run by the Canadian Armed Forces staff who collect toys, books and donations thanks to the generosity of the Simcoe region.
