Biography

Hongyao Zhu (he/him), also known as Brandon Zhu, serves as the Program Coordinator for the Peer Support and Trauma Program at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), bringing a variety of experience and skills to his role.

With a Master of Social Work degree specializing in Mental Health and Health from Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, Brandon is dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey towards healing and recovery.

Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, Brandon has undergone specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. He manages the inventory of the Peer Support and Trauma Response Program, triages peer support requests, and maintains the program’s websites and resources. He also conducts rounding in the hospital to check in on staff and offers counselling to support anyone wearing a SickKids badge. His commitment to both personal and professional development ensures that he remains at the forefront of best practices in peer and mental health support.
