Biography
Dr. Susanna Talarico is a Staff Physician in the Division of Paediatric Medicine and Assistant Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. She is a passionate paediatrician and medical educator who started her career as a high school math teacher, and continues to be involved in all levels of medical education.
Talarico has received awards for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and for Excellence and Achievement in Faculty Development. She is the former associate director for the Portfolio component of the MD Program at the University of Toronto, and currently the Faculty Lead for Faculty Development.
Research
Talarico’s research follows her creative professional activities and focus on qualitative evaluations of curricula and education programs.
For example, transformative learning principles were applied as an innovative approach to program development and evaluation of a Social Pediatrics Summer Studentship Program as published in Academic Medicine in 2019. Other work involves the exploration of the resident experience during a Resident as Teacher elective, and the perceptions of faculty and residents as facilitators in the Portfolio component of the MD Program.
