Blake Papsin
Biography
Dr. Blake Papsin was named Otolaryngologist-in-Chief in April 2013. He has been a full-time consultant since July 1996 and was the Director of the Cochlear Implant Program at SickKids for the last fifteen years.
He completed his fellowship training in paediatric otolaryngology at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, England.
Research
Research in Dr. Papsin's lab is directed at determining how the auditory system develops after cochlear implantation in young children. Dr. Papsin's lab examines the auditory system using electrophysiologic measurements and compare the time course of development with the known rates of development for persons with normal hearing. In addition, they analyze speech and language outcomes to identify the optimal time for cochlear implantation and possible factors that might predict superior performance.
Publications
Dr. Papsin has published a considerable number of peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and has spoken widely on the subject of surgical rehabilitation of hearing loss which is his clinical focus.
