Maryse Bouchard

Dr. Maryse Bouchard obtained her medical degree at McGill University. She completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Toronto in 2012 and concurrently obtained a Masters' degree investigating the access to orthopaedic care and medical devices in low-income countries. Her first subspecialty fellowship was in adult foot and ankle surgery under Dr. Tim Daniels at the University of Toronto, with additional training with Dr. Thibault Leemrijse in Brussels, Belgium in 2013. She completed a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Seattle Children's Hospital with Dr. Vincent Mosca in 2013-14, and a lower limb reconstruction fellowship at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia with Mr. Leo Donnan in 2014. 

Dr. Bouchard began her career at Seattle Children’s Hospital in 2015 but returned home to Canada to join the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in January 2019. She cares for children with foot and ankle disorders including clubfeet, congenital and acquired limb deformities, and genetic conditions such as skeletal dysplasias and arthrogryposis. She established the first multi-disciplinary limb reconstruction program in Seattle, and is co-leading efforts to formalize the regional anaesthesia program at SickKids.

Dr. Bouchard sits on the medical boards of two volunteer organizations that provide paediatric foot and ankle care to children globally in resource-poor areas, Mobility Outreach International and Steps2Walk.

Research

Dr. Bouchard’s research program is centered on long-term clinical and patient-reported outcomes of paediatric foot and ankle conditions. Her goal is to better understand how children with foot and ankle problems will do when they become adults. She established two patient registries at SickKids, one for children with clubfeet and the second for those with any other foot conditions. Particularly, she investigates the need and results of surgery for clubfeet, use of 3D modeling and printing in foot and ankle surgical planning, and outcomes of minimally invasive procedures in the paediatric foot. Dr. Bouchard continues to evaluate barriers of access to orthopaedic care both locally and globally.
