To address the problem of micronutrient malnutrition in children, in the early 1990s, UNICEF challenged a research team led by Dr. Stanley Zlotkin to come up with a solution. Called “Sprinkles”, they were recently added to the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines for Children (EMLc) for the prevention of anaemia in infants and children.
