SickKids scientists named Highly Cited Researchers for 2024

The researchers are among 206 Canadian scientists on Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers 2024 list.

Researchers from The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) have once again been recognized on Clarivate’s list of Highly Cited Researchers for 2024

Dr. Zulfiqar Bhutta was named in the category of Clinical Medicine. Bhutta is a Senior Scientist in the Child Health Evaluative Sciences program, and Co-Director and Director of Research at the SickKids Centre for Global Child HealthHis research is focused on global maternal, newborn and child survival, maternal and child nutrition, early childhood development, and micronutrient deficiencies. Over the years, his research has driven changes in global public health policies and influenced community-based interventions and outreach programs for marginalized populations worldwide. Dr. Bhutta's current work includes a focus on climate, environmental health, and solutions for women and children in polycrisis settings. 

In the category of Cross-Field research, Dr. Mike Tyers is a Senior Scientist in the Molecular Medicine program and Associate Chief of Innovation and Infrastructure at SickKids Research Institute. His current research interests are in the genetics of cell size control, the enzymology and substrate recognition in the ubiquitin-proteasome system, the mapping of chemical-gene interaction networks, chemical probes as tools for biological discovery, the generation of open-access resources for biological interaction data, and the development of synthetic biology approaches for drug discovery in infectious disease, neurobiology and cancer.

The SickKids scientists are among 6,636 other researchers from institutions in 59 countries and regions who have demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field(s) through the publication of multiple highly cited papers. These papers rank in the top one per cent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index.
