Preparing for traffic disruptions due to convoys

Summary:

SickKids urges patients and families to anticipate delays when travelling to and from the hospital over the weekend.

SickKids and our hospital neighbours near Queen’s Park are aware of the planned trucker convoys for this weekend and are working with Toronto Police Service (TPS) to ensure patients, families and staff can safely access hospital campuses.

The SickKids emergency department will remain open. Some scheduled appointments are being postponed. Care teams will be reaching out to any patients and families whose appointments may be affected. Plans are in place to help ensure staffing levels are maintained and any disruptions to patient care are minimized.

Patients and families who are travelling to and from SickKids this weekend should anticipate delays and consider taking transit in case of road traffic congestion. As of 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, the following streets are closed:

  • University Avenue between Queen Street and College Street
  • College Street between University Avenue and Yonge Street

However, vehicles travelling to the hospitals will be permitted access through police checkpoints.

Please check the following Twitter accounts and websites for updates.

Our top priority is the safety and well-being of SickKids patients, families and staff. We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to respond accordingly to ensure safe, continued hospital operations.
