The Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Child and Family-Centred Care at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is excited to announce the launch of The SKOOP! The SKOOP is a new YouTube channel produced in-hospital and made specifically for patients and their siblings. It features a variety of original programming to help children and youth cope with hospitalization, led by friendly, familiar faces from SickKids, including Child Life Specialists and Therapeutic Clowns.
Videos include:
- Tips and tricks for inpatient stays
- Child-friendly information on tests and procedures
- Educational content about exploring feelings
- Entertaining patient talent shows
- Celebrity and special guest visits
“We are excited to launch The SKOOP! The SKOOP is a fun and reliable resource available to everyone in the SickKids community. Our content can be used as a tool to help empower patients, provide education, improve coping, foster connection and just let kids be kids,” says Karima Karmali, Director, Centre for Innovation & Excellence in Child and Family-Centred Care at SickKids.
Tune in to The SKOOP on SickKids’ closed-circuit television channel 41
Alongside the launch of The SKOOP YouTube channel, SickKids’ closed-circuit TV channel, previously known as Channel 41, is being rebranded as The SKOOP. Patients and families in the hospital are welcome to join The SKOOP team and take part in interactive activities via their in-room phone or personal cell phone during the 16 live shows broadcast to patient rooms each week. Name That Tune, Jazz’s Rockin’ Karaoke, Child Life Bingo, Kids’ Craft Show and story time are a few of the popular, fun and educational shows broadcast weekly. The SKOOP YouTube channel will be updated regularly with recordings from these shows and other content, so check back often!
