SickKids awarded Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada

Summary:

SickKids maintains Exemplary Standing – the highest level awarded – in the 2021 Accreditation Canada Survey.

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) has been awarded Accreditation with Exemplary Standing -- the highest level possible from Accreditation Canada.

SickKids’ Accreditation process is overseen by Accreditation Canada, an independent, not-for-profit organization that works with health-care organizations to help them evaluate and improve quality, safety and efficiency so they can offer the best possible care and service. Accreditation also provides recognition that an organization's services are meeting national standards of quality.

“SickKids staff are the very best at what they do, and I could not be prouder of everyone for achieving this well-deserved result and recognition,” said Dr. Ronald Cohn, President and CEO, SickKids. “These are challenging times for us all and I hope that our patients and families can take comfort that SickKids remains as dedicated and committed as ever to providing the highest standards of quality, safety and care.”

Accreditation Canada surveyors were on site at SickKids from Oct. 4 to 8. During their visit, they evaluated SickKids on 2,728 different criteria, observing everything from governance and leadership to infection control and clinical care. SickKids met 99.8 percent of these criteria.

The surveyors recognized SickKids' highly collaborative culture that engaged staff, patients, families, and community partners. Overall strengths identified by the surveyors included a strong focus on safety and quality; passionate and dedicated staff; continuous consideration of patient and family engagement; responsiveness to community needs during the COVID-19 pandemic; and many examples of excellent clinical practice and service delivery.

SickKids was also commended for its ongoing work to integrate Accreditation into its operations to improve the quality and safety of its programs and services.
