SickKids scientists join prestigious Royal Society of Canada

Two SickKids scientists, Drs. Michael Taylor and Jean-Philippe Julien, were named Fellow and Member of the prestigious Royal Society of Canada this week.
The RSC recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a high level of achievement in their careers and made outstanding contributions to their fields and to Canadian public life. Founded in 1882, the RSC comprises the Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences, and The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.
Dr. Taylor is a Neurosurgeon and Senior Scientist in the Developmental & Stem Cell Biology Program, and Principal Investigator in the Arthur and Sonia Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre. His research efforts centre on the molecular genetics of medulloblastoma and ependymoma, two of the most common malignant paediatric brain tumours. He was one of 93 new Fellows named to the Academies of Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, nominated and elected by RSC peers.
Dr. Julien is a Scientist in the Molecular Medicine Program. He uses structural and biophysical techniques to characterize how antibodies are made by the immune system, and how they recognize antigens. Dr. Julien's research aims to improve understanding of immunity and guide development of new vaccine candidates for malaria and HIV. He was one of 46 new Members added to the College of New Scholars, which recognizes top mid-career leaders in Canada.
