SickKids was lit up with excitement Friday, July 10, as we played host to the Toronto 2015 Torch Relay on its final stretch to the official opening of the Pan Am Games.
Double-lung transplant recipient and SickKids patient ambassador, Myles Lynch, ran the Pan Am Games torch into the hospital on the last day of the 41-day relay throughout Canada.
The event took place in the Slaight Family Atrium and it was packed with SickKids staff, patients and families cheering Myles on for the final steps of his 200 metre run into the hospital.
The crowd was entertained with remarks from Dr. Mike Apkon, SickKids President and CEO, a CIBC representative and former SickKids patient and Paralympian, Josh Cassidy, as well as a special cheer and dance session with Pachi the Porcupine, the Toronto 2015 mascot.
After the run, Pachi, Josh and Myles joined some of our patients and families in Marnie’s Lounge for photos and fun.
The Pan Am Games Torch Relay visited the hospital thanks to an opportunity provided by CIBC, a supporter of SickKids for over 30 years.
