Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) Clinic

Location:
170 Elizabeth St., Urology Clinic, 5D, 5th Floor
Phone:
416-813-6661

About the Clinic

The LUTS Clinic is run by nurse practitioners who have specialized knowledge and expertise in the assessment, treatment and management of children with voiding dysfunction. Children are referred to the LUTS Clinic if they experience ongoing symptoms, such as recurrent urinary tract infections, daytime wetting, bedwetting and urinary urgency and frequency. The nurse practitioners work with urologists, nurses and social workers in order to develop a treatment plan that is specific to your child’s bladder needs. The goal of the clinic is to provide a holistic approach to care for children and families struggling to manage lower urinary tract symptoms.

Pre-appointment Instructions

What to bring:

  • Your child’s three-day voiding diary.

Directions:

If this is your child’s first visit to SickKids you need to register for your appointment at Clinic Registration near the Atrium entrance on Elizabeth Street. Arrive early so you have enough time to register.

If this is a return visit to SickKids you need to register in the Urology Clinic on Unit 5D. The Urology Clinic is located on the fifth floor of the Atrium. Take the Atrium elevator to the fifth floor and look for the D sign. That will lead you to 5D.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Your child may need to complete some diagnostic tests before seeing the nurse practitioner, such as a renal ultrasound, KUB X-ray or a flow rate study. Your child’s name will be called and you will be taken to a clinic room. You and your child may meet with several team members depending on your child’s needs. The appointment will involve an assessment of your child’s current or past health concern, a physical examination, a discussion with you about findings and suggestions for treatment. You will have lots of time to ask questions and give feedback on your child’s plan of care.

If any follow-up appointments are needed, the clinic coordinator/clerk will be available to assist you with scheduling an appointment. At the end of the appointment, you will be given an appointment card or your appointment will be mailed to you, depending on booking availabilities.

In total, the appointment will take about 30-60 minutes, depending on wait times.
