Biography

Dr. Israel Valverde earned his medical degree from the University of Seville, Spain. He completed his residency training in Paediatrics at Hospital Virgen del Rocio in Seville, Spain. From 2008 to 2014, Dr. Valverde pursued specialized training in Paediatric Cardiology, which included a clinical fellowship in Cardiac MR at the Evelina London Children Hospital from 2009 to 2011.

In 2014, he was appointed as a staff member in Paediatric Cardiology at the Hospital Virgen del Rocio in Seville and subsequently became the Head of Unit from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, in 2015, he served as a locum consultant in Paediatric Cardiology, working in the cardiac MR service at Evelina London Children Hospital.

Dr. Valverde achieved a postgraduate research degree, MD(Res), at the Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences department of King's College London, UK. His research focused on the evaluation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging for image-based computational fluid dynamic modeling in Aortic Coarctation. In recognition of his work, he was appointed as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Biomedical Engineering at King's College London in 2015.

In 2019, Dr. Valverde was appointed as an Associate Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Seville, Spain, further solidifying his commitment to academic excellence and medical education. In 2022 he obtained his PhD tesis regarding Evaluation of Multimodal Imaging for 3D Printing in Congenital Heart Disease.

In 2023, he was appointed as a Staff Cardiologist and Clinician Investigator at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

Dr. Valverde’s research interests include cardiac MR, 3D printing and advanced imaging including virtual and mixed reality. Over recent years he started a novel research line of 3D bioprinting.
