Charleen Ayeni

Charleen Ayeni is Cree, originally from the Mushkegowuk Territory, with strong family roots in both northern Ontario and Quebec. Her spirit name is Eiyaapit tahueh waapisiich kashkuun. Her family, particularly her grandmother's side, plays an important role in helping her maintain and strengthen her connection to her culture and language.

Before coming to SickKids, Charleen worked in roles supporting Indigenous community members to navigate services and systems, helping people connect with resources and find their way through complex processes. She brings a background in nursing, as well as experience working within Indigenous justice. She has spent many years working closely with Elders in her community and has long been interested in health-care.
