Fibroblast Culture In Flask -Bank/Sendout

Fibroblast Cell Culture.  Preferably 2xT25 Flasks. All cell lines are presently processed and stored according to current standards of best practices for biorepositories

All Incoming cell lines will be tested for Mycoplasma.

Instructions for Submission of Fibroblast Culture in Flask

  • Preferably 2xT25 sterile 80-90% Confluent flask received at room temperature. 
  • Flask should be fully filled with alpha Culture Media + 15% FBS + 1% Pen/Strep.
  • Caps should be tightened and wrapped with paraffin wrap to avoid and spillage.
  •  The specimen should be submitted as soon as ~80-90 % confluency after establishment to ensure specimen viability for successful division and storage of the cell line.
  •  Label with Epic label on each tube (If applicable)
  •  If the specimen has to be stored overnight prior to sending to this laboratory, it should be kept at 37C incubator. If there is no access to a incubator, it can be left at room temperature.

  •  Each sample must be accompanied by a completed SickKids Clinical Fibroblast Service Requisition form, signed by the Clinician requesting the banking.

  • Sendout information must be provided on the requisition with the appropriate approvals submitted when necessary.
