SickKids neonatologist Dr. Rosemary Moodie appointed to the Senate of Canada
Dr. Rosemary Moodie, Associate Staff Physician, Neonatology, and a longtime member of the SickKids family, has been appointed to the Senate of Canada. The Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, made the latest Senate appointments yesterday.
Dr. Moodie is well-known for sharing her health-care expertise in the academic environment and her community. She is a strong advocate for women and girls and has made significant contributions to reducing social inequities and health disparities among children and vulnerable communities.
Dr. Moodie has promoted public policy through organizational leadership, mentorship and community volunteerism. She is on the Board of Directors for the inaugural board of Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph's Health Centre, St. Michael's Hospital and the Scotiabank Jamaica Foundation. She was the President and Board Chair of the YWCA Toronto when the Elm Centre was completed.
In recognition of her continued success in her field, Dr. Moodie has been the recipient of many awards and distinctions, including the Order of Distinction – Commander Rank from the Government of Jamaica, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Prix d'excellence – Specialist of the Year, Canadian Paediatric Society Distinguished Community Paediatrician, University of Toronto Alumni Association Community Engagement Award, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Council Award, and City of Toronto Constance E. Hamilton Award on the Status of Women for securing equitable treatment for women.
Dr. Moodie truly is a part of the SickKids family. A distinguished member in the Division of Neonatology, she completed her paediatric residency and fellowship training in neonatology right here at SickKids and in 2011 was recognized by the hospital for her 25 years of outstanding service. Dr. Moodie's close ties with SickKids extend to other members of her family: Dr. Moodie's spouse is a SickKids paediatrician and her son is a SickKids cardiology fellow.
